Afternoon in the All Day Program - the Perfect Balance
Montessori School of Lisle has long been known for its emphasis on academic excellence, particularly in Advanced Reading and Math. There is, however, an equally important component that makes this program so well-rounded and balanced. Focusing on the development of the whole child, in the afternoon our attention shifts to enhancing creativity, imagination, exploration and social development.
Besides teaching beginning Spanish and our Cultural Awareness Program to all three classes, Jeanne Sheridan, the afternoon lead teacher, has redefined the “art of play”. Learning through play promotes physical, psychological and intellectual health and growth. Jeanne uses the seasons, cultural holidays, environmental and current affairs and whatever is firing up the imaginations of the children at the moment to fuse fun and facts.
She not only encourages recycling, she demonstrates it. Using countless recycled materials, she and the children make their own paper and produce artwork that is impressionistic at its most creative. Jeanne uses songs and music to teach sign language and counting in numerous languages. She introduces the wonders of science and the study of animals from the ancient dinosaurs to those currently roaming our farms, zoos and ranges. Interwoven into this playtime patchwork is attention to helping the children develop good social skills and problem solving techniques. Throughout all, Jeanne’s focus is always on helping each and every child develop a strong sense of self and a respect for others. Come see why the Montessori School of Lisle All Day Afternoon is truly like no other.
